Ask Dr. SCSI - I'm looking for a hardware SCSI Bus analyzer and no one is selling them anymore... Can you help? Dr. SCSI

Q. I'm looking for a hardware SCSI Bus analyzer and no one is selling them anymore... Can you help?

A. Do you need bus-level analysis? Most targets and initiator code is 100% solid by this time. If you just need to capture trace data and not do precise phase-level inspection our Bus Analyzer Module (BAM) will sure do the job. Because the target and initiator silicon is so solid we probably use BAM 99.9% of the time in house - same thing with our major customers. Even if they have hardware based tools available once they start using BAM they quickly find that they are working more efficiently.

No setup and cabling mess, no special expertise needed, just quick and easy results! We can watch "regular" bus transactions, monitor queued commands at queue depths up to 255, monitor real-time command turn-around time, capture all data and sense data, everything a hardware analyzer can do except tell you how many micro-seconds passed between command and data phase. And like I mentioned, I can't imagine anyone who hasn't had the protocol level of silicon working for years.
